The journey begins with a scenic drive from Haridwar or Rishikesh to Govindghat, covering a distance of approximately 280 km in 10-12 hours. The route passes through picturesque hill towns and sacred confluences like Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Joshimath, offering breathtaking views of the Ganga and Alaknanda rivers. Upon reaching Govindghat, trekkers check into their accommodation, rest, and prepare for the adventure ahead.
After an early breakfast, the trek from Govindghat to Ghangaria begins. Covering a 9 km stretch, the trail is filled with mesmerizing waterfalls, lush greenery, and wooden bridges over gushing streams. The gradual ascent is relatively easy, allowing trekkers to enjoy the surrounding Himalayan landscapes. Upon arrival in Ghangaria, a small base village for both the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib, trekkers settle into their guesthouses and relax for the night.
The day starts with an early morning trek to the Valley of Flowers, a short 4 km ascent from Ghangaria. As trekkers enter the national park, they are welcomed by a surreal landscape filled with a variety of blooming flowers such as blue poppies, primulas, and Brahmakamal, alongside snow-capped mountains and flowing streams. The valley, stretching over 87 square kilometers, offers plenty of time for exploration and photography. After soaking in the beauty of this paradise, trekkers return to Ghangaria for the night, completing an 8 km round trip.
This day involves a steep and challenging 6 km trek to Hemkund Sahib, located at 14,100 feet. The ascent is strenuous due to the high altitude, but the breathtaking scenery makes it worthwhile. Upon reaching Hemkund, trekkers visit the sacred Gurudwara, known for its tranquil setting beside a crystal-clear glacial lake, reflecting the snow-covered peaks. After spending some peaceful moments at the holy site, trekkers begin their descent back to Ghangaria, completing a 12 km journey for the day.
The trek back to Govindghat begins after breakfast, covering the same 9 km trail that was taken on Day 2. The descent is easier and allows trekkers to once again admire the beauty of the surroundings. Upon reaching Govindghat, a short 20 km drive takes them to Joshimath, a charming hill town known for its religious and scenic significance. The evening is free for rest or exploration before an overnight stay at a hotel.
The final day marks the return journey from Joshimath to Haridwar or Rishikesh. The 10-12 hour drive retraces the scenic route, offering one last chance to admire the Himalayan landscape. Upon reaching the destination, the trek concludes, leaving trekkers with unforgettable memories of the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib.
