Itinerary
The journey begins early in the morning from Live Free Hostel, Rishikesh, where transport is arranged at 5:00 AM. The scenic drive to Lohajung, covering 260 km in 10-11 hours, passes through picturesque mountain roads, winding along rivers and lush green valleys. Along the way, trekkers get a glimpse of Uttarakhand’s rich culture, crossing charming villages and famous confluences like Devprayag. Upon arrival in Lohajung, the Indiahikes basecamp, trekkers settle into their accommodations, enjoy a warm meal, and rest for the night before the trek begins.
The trek starts with a gradual ascent through dense forests of oak and rhododendron, offering stunning views of the Nanda Ghunti peak. The 4.5 km trail takes approximately 5 hours, leading to Gujreni, a beautiful campsite surrounded by towering trees and a small lake nearby. As the sun sets, trekkers relax by a warm bonfire and prepare for the next day’s journey.
A short but steep 2.9 km trek takes trekkers to Tilandi, a vast ridge offering panoramic views of Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti. The ascent through alpine meadows takes around 4-5 hours, with the landscape gradually opening up to reveal breathtaking snow-covered peaks. Upon reaching Tilandi, trekkers settle at the campsite, enjoying the peace and beauty of the high-altitude surroundings.
The trek to Brahmatal Top, the highest point of the trek at 12,250 ft, is the most exhilarating day. The 6 km journey takes trekkers through snow-laden trails, offering 360-degree views of the Himalayas, including peaks like Mt. Chaukhamba, Mt. Neelkanth, Mt. Trishul, and Mt. Nanda Ghunti. After soaking in the breathtaking scenery at the summit, the descent leads to Brahmatal Lake, a tranquil frozen lake nestled amid snow-covered landscapes. The day ends at the Brahmatal campsite, where trekkers rest under a starlit sky.
The return journey follows a different trail, descending 8.45 km through dense forests and snowfields back to Lohajung. The 7-8 hour trek allows trekkers to retrace their steps while admiring the stunning Himalayan vistas from a new perspective. Upon reaching Lohajung, trekkers celebrate the completion of their adventure with a warm meal and a well-earned rest.
The final day involves a 10-11 hour drive back to Rishikesh, covering 260 km. Trekkers leave Lohajung in the morning and reach Rishikesh by 6-7 PM. Along the way, they once again pass through scenic mountain routes, concluding their incredible journey with memories of the Brahmatal Trek's breathtaking landscapes and thrilling experiences.
