Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun Railway Station to Sankri, the base camp of the Kedarkantha trek. Departing early morning around 6:00–7:00 AM in a comfortable Tempo Traveller, you'll pass through the charming hill station of Mussoorie and the popular Kempty Falls, making your way deep into the Garhwal Himalayas. The route takes you through picturesque villages like Purola and Mori, with panoramic views of lush pine forests, terraced fields, and the serene Tons River Valley. Upon arrival in Sankri (1,920 meters), you’ll check into our cozy Swargarohini Hotel, where you can relax, enjoy the Himalayan air, and savor a hot dinner with views of snow-capped peaks.
Wake up to a peaceful Himalayan morning with a warm cup of tea and a hearty breakfast. By 8:30 AM, your trek begins as you leave Sankri and ascend through dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron. The trail offers intermittent openings where you’ll catch glimpses of snow-covered peaks, along with charming water streams along the way. The moderate climb brings you to Juda Ka Talab (2,700 meters), a serene alpine lake surrounded by dense forest and snow-laden meadows. Spend the night here in dome tents, soaking in the stillness of the forest and starlit skies above.
Today’s trek is shorter but takes you higher into the mountains. After breakfast, continue your gradual ascent through thick pine forests and open meadows. As you climb, the Kedarkantha Peak begins to appear clearly, building excitement for the summit. Upon reaching Kedarkantha Base Camp (3,200 meters), you’ll be greeted by panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and the Gangotri ranges. Settle into your tent amidst snowfields and take time to rest and acclimatize before the big climb. Dinner will be served hot as you prepare for the early morning summit push.
The most thrilling day of the trek begins pre-dawn at around 3:30 AM. With headlamps on and hearts full of anticipation, you’ll ascend through snow-covered trails and alpine slopes. Reaching the Kedarkantha Summit (3,800 meters) in time for sunrise is a surreal experience — golden sunlight slowly illuminates the 360-degree view of towering Himalayan peaks like Swargarohini, Black Peak (Kalanag), Bandarpoonch, and the Har Ki Dun Valley. After spending time at the summit, descend back to base camp for a quick meal before continuing down to Hargaon Thach (2,645 meters), a beautiful meadow campsite surrounded by forest. Enjoy a well-earned rest in your tent after the day’s achievement.
On the final day of trekking, descend gently through lush pine and oak forests. The trail winds through charming hamlets and apple orchards, offering great opportunities to click memorable photos. With occasional Himalayan views in the backdrop, the trail gradually brings you back to Sankri, where your journey began. Check back into Swargarohini Hotel, freshen up, and enjoy a celebratory evening in the peaceful mountain village. Share stories, laugh with fellow trekkers, and reminisce about your summit experience under the stars.
After an early breakfast, say goodbye to the mountains and begin your return journey to Dehradun in a Tempo Traveller. As you retrace the scenic route through the valleys and villages, reflect on your incredible journey through the Himalayas. Arrival in Dehradun is expected by evening, marking the official end of your trek. You’ll return with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a deep connection with the mountains.
